Gay Marriage

Earlier this week Obama announced his support for gay marriage, see the link below for more info :)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-18015504

It was a prideful moment for those of us who know so many gay people who feel the need to hide their sexuality from their loved ones because of the unaccepted lifestyle. Coming from a desi muslim background, I know too many gay men who cannot live as freely as they would like due to the culture, but hopefully this was a step in the right direction to a new world that is open and accepting.

Cheers to Obama for standing up for equal rights (though I know some question his motives). Regardless of his intention, I'm happy with his support for equality :)

Oprah on Maya Angelou and Courage

Oprah on Courage and Maya Angelou-
"Courage is the most important of all the virtues, without it, you can practice no other." It takes courage to be kind when others are not. It takes courage to be truthful when a lie might suffice. It takes courage to keep moving forward, when you'd rather quit. I've learned that courage, or opting for bravery, is feeling the fear and still doing what is necessary to overcome it. And in the very act of bravery you don't feel brave but just feel what is true and most real.

Ironically one of my most desolate moments, barely being able to speak in between sobs of despair, I called Maya looking for comfort and sympathy. Instead she sternly chided me, "STOP IT" she said. "Stop your crying right now and say THANK YOU!"

"Why would I say thank you for this?" I said. "Say thank you because you know God, and you know He put a rainbow in every cloud. The rainbow is coming. Say thank you even though you can't see it. It's already there."

So in the worst of times, I still remind myself of that great lesson and say "Thank you"…and then prepare to see the rainbow

"When you know better you do better."
Maya Angelou had said this to me once when I was talking to her about mistakes I had made in my youth .

And she was saying you did in your 20s what you knew how to do and when you knew better you did better and you should not be judged for the person that you were but for the person you are trying to be and the woman that you are now.

Thank You Game Challenge

stole this from Oprah:

Today's Thank You Game challenge is to thank someone who brings beauty into your life. (http://on.fb.me/ThankYouGame)

Most perceive beauty as a physical trait but for me it truly comes from the outside of a person as well as the inside.

I want to thank Jeffrey Paul, for teaching me all the beauty tips he has taught so many of us on how to do right by your face. He is not only unbelievably talented with makeup, (there's a reason he has his own beauty line 360° Beauty NYC and works on celebrities for their finest events) but he also has one of the biggest hearts I have ever known. He's the type of guy you text you are hungry and he shows up at your door with a basket full of your favorite goodies, truly best friend material.

I would also like to thank Reese Mugerditchian for bringing LIFT, Leading India's Future Today, into my life. I was in a period of life where I didn't know what I could see myself doing for the rest of my life, going to work everyday and being content. Reese, a very dear family friend, thought of me with helping with online marketing for the summer scholarship event. She actually wondered if I would take on the task.

She is a woman of many talents, so smart and beautiful. She is a worldly woman, who understands that life is not just her own bubble world, but includes many others; even if that means others are on the other hemisphere of the world, Reese will find her way to them :)
So thank you Reese, for being you :=)
