Elementary School Shooting

I haven't written an entry in a long time but felt the deep need to write one today.

On Friday, December 14, 2012 a 20 year old took a gun into an elementary school and shot and killed 20 children and 6 staff members.

My heart is broken. When innocent little children are being murdered in your nation, when they were simply at school, you feel your country, your world, is at war.

Debates have started again on gun control or media coverage, however no one can deny that something needs to change in our country. We have to stand up for the innocent and say enough is enough, no more murders please. We are tired of worrying about being shot at in a school, in a movie theatre or in a mall. No more please.

It will be a hard thing to push for more gun control in America, as people fear their rights being taken away, however there must be something we can do different. No one wants to see anymore innocent people die because we acted too late as a nation. Please let's all stand up and ask for change.

To the families who lost their children on this past tragic Friday, our thoughts and prayers are with you. We can not even fathom what you are going through but know that we are here for you. May your children rest in peace.

Remembering 9/11

Roses and a US flag are laid amid the names of the First Responders along the South Pool of the 9/11 Memorial in New York

Today marks the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Wanted to take a moment to remember all those who died that day.

We still remember you. :)

Chicago Teachers Strike

How much do we value our teachers in society? Not enough.

As someone who depended on her teachers more than anything growing up, (in particular my favorite teacher Mrs. Flannery), I hope we can treat our teachers better and appreciate the value they bring to our world and children. We support you teachers :-)

Let's hope this strike is resolved soon...

Killed for Dancing by the Taliban

This is such a sad story.

Allegedly, 17 Afghan civilians were beheaded because they went to dance party that openly disregarded the beliefs of the Taliban culture, or as some say an extreme brand of Islam.

Oh my, such a sad story. Not sure how to further discuss.

Toro Sushi

This is a MUST blog about restaurant. Rarely in Chicago do I feel the need to blog on a restaurant as we go to so many but Toro Sushi in Lincoln Park is definitely one of those rare ones that I had to share with you guys.

My BFF was in town and loves sushi. I wanted to take her to the best spot and my coworkers RAVE about Toro. Finally went and there was no disappointment at all. It is incredible.

We sat at the sushi bar and chatted it up with Mitch, the sushi chef. Note his happy smile below:)

Mitch was so kind and gave us a complimentary sashimi wrap, can't remember the names of what else we got sadly because we went weeks ago but here's some pics below.

The sushi is super fresh here, will definitely be visiting again with more friends and family!:)

Thank someone who makes you laugh

I know she's not even 2 years old yet but my niece Samar makes me laugh so hard. Whether it's her goofy facial expressions, her imitating the adults, her obsession with strawberries or simply just her smile, she lights up the room and makes life oh so much better.

So thank you Samar Parveen Nazimuddin for being such a beautiful ball of laughter that brightens my day everyday. So lucky to not only be your khala but to get to see you every day.

With that i will also thank all of my family members including Daddy, Mummy, Abba, Aloo, Ahmed, Lubi, Adu, J, Dimps and Humi...they are always cracking me up with either things they do or say. We do love to laugh in our family :)) or rather at each other hehe:)

this is a pic from back in 2008 but it's the only full family pic i have, minus my j, dimps and humi of course:)

Gemini Bistro Chicago

Went to an incredible restaurant this past wednesday night that i had to share with you guys!

Gemini Bistro.

It's this romantic restaurant in lincoln park at the corner of dickens and lincoln. From the outside it looks nice but when you enter you become easily impressed by the dark wood floors and romantic lighting. As soon as we walked in i told my colleague this is a great spot for a date:))

The food was so delicious....they start off with complimentary bread. Then we all tried a bunch of different salads, i got the red and golden beet salad which was really yummy. It all tasted so fresh. We also ordered a side of fries, which i skipped but the rest of the table raved about. For entrees we all got different things again but i had the blackened whitefish which had a mexican kick to it, so so good. When i saw the portions i thought this won't be filling but it turned out to be perfect, i even had a little left over.

The ambiance was romantic and elegant, the food was delicious, the service was fast and the company was fantastic (thank you Alloy Digital for taking us)! I think everyone should check out this restaurant for sure. If you do let me know what your experience was:))
