A Hand to Hold

Working with children at the Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago has already been an eye opening experience.

These kids just want a hand to hold, to know they are not alone. Often times their parents are no where to be found or are unable to visit. One baby had heart surgery and he was only 7 months old. He loved having visitors. All he wanted was to have someone hold his hand and play with him.

Another little girl was sitting all day watching Dora the Explorer because no one was there to visit her. We walked in and chatted with her for a bit and brought in a toy. She smiled. Again, she just wanted to know she wasn't alone, that someone cared.

These are such little kids. Makes you wonder, at such a little age these kids have already gone through so much. And as human beings, at the end, all we want is a hand to hold.

  1. Sometimes a helping hand can lighten the hardest of burdens and a simple hug can say more than a thousand words.

I am use seeing mainly old people were neglected in places like hospitals and nursing homes but after reading this post many kids too, with anyone it is nice to know that you don't have to fight this battle alone! :)
