As much as I love my Motherland, India, I am overcome with deep sadness at the country's attitude towards women.
On December 16th, a 23 year-old woman and her male friend were taking the bus from the movies in Delhi. She was gang raped for nearly an hour by 6 men, beaten with iron bars and tossed out of a moving bus onto the street.
Can you imagine? Being raped on a moving bus and no one does anything...what type of world is that? Not one made for a woman. The Indian culture needs to learn to respect its women more, to not treat them as inferior to the male species.
When my brother and I visited tombs in India, you could always tell which was for a male and which for a female because the male tomb was always higher than the female one.
I hope this tragic story awakens the people of India and helps them realize that women too are human beings, and are NOT inferior to men.

A few weeks ago here in the UK, we had posh actress, Joanna Lumley, blame the women for dressing provocatively that gets them in the situation that leads to them getting raped.
ReplyDeleteIt was a huge conversation on London's talk radio station regarding this comment she made and I had to speak out, I called the station and mentioned this incident in Delhi, I referred to the fact that she was with a male friend and she did not do anything to provoke these animals (don't feel like calling them men) in any way that had led to this tragedy.
It got me so p****d off that I have lost quite a lot of respect for Joanna Lumley as a woman and a human being, I can no longer see her as the upper class lady she is well known to be.
Hey Sajmeister!
ReplyDeleteI know, this only happens too frequently where people blame the woman for her dressing when she gets raped, but if a man wants to do something to you whether you are covered or not, he will. So thank you for stepping up for us women!
You are welcome Nish, and thank you for such excellent blogs.
DeleteI had to voice this not only because of what Joanna Lumley said but also because of what another woman, a listener who called into the radio station, said the same thing as Joanna Lumley that it is a woman's fault entirely.
There were women on there who had called in to say they had gone through this ordeal and they did not do ANYTHING whatsoever to provoke the situation and the presenter was just as upset at her as I was with Joanna Lumley, so yeah I had to say something.
And it was not just standing up for women kind but for mankind as a whole, I have a personal policy that the people we help and hurt also affects those that the people are close to.
So yeah I had to mention the Delhi case because no one else had mentioned it even though everyone in the world has heard about it.
